GETTING YOURSELF A CAT

Growing up, I've always wanted a pet something. I wasn't allowed a dog so i chose the next best things. I've had a parrot, lots of boring fish, a turtle at some point and even a pet worm. Now, the problem with these pets are that they are largely emotionally unfulfilling.

The fish just blub away, the parrot tried to peck me, and a worm is...well, a worm.

1) So, why a cat?

I always thought of myself as a dog person - but limitations for me - it would be nicer if you could have open space or a kennel outside, few breeds like Labradors are happy in a flat.

But you need to take them out regularly for their business while cats can be toilet trained to use the litter box at home.

They need a lot more time and loving unlike a cat which usually stops being needy and start ordering you around as it gets older.

2) How to gift someone a cat?

DON'T. A cat or any animal is a responsibility. Although a kitten looks heart breakingly cute in a little fluffy ribbon strategically placed in a basket, it requires a lot of care, future planning and attention and should not be given to someone as an impulse decision.

What you could do however, is inform the person that you wish to gift them a kitten and take an informed decision together regarding the kitten to be adopted.

3) What cat should you adopt?

I know there are a lot of marvellous pedigree cats you can buy but it would be nice if you could think about adopting from your local pound. There are also many online sites and forums where you can find out about stray kittens that need a home. I've adopted a stray kitten myself. But again, that is a personal decision.

Cats shed a lot of hair so keep that in mind while choosing. Also it's a suggestion that if you are new to cats, you could adopt a kitten as you can both grow together and understand each other better.

As a first timer, it may be difficult to understand or take care of an older cat, but if you are determined to do that, go ahead.

4) How do you toilet train them?

Well, you could start out with newspapers for little kittens. And show them where the litter box is. Cats tend to naturally take to using the litter box. Mine started using it in two days.

5) What do you feed them?

Kittens require special kitten food after which you can give regular cat food as they get older.  You can ask your local vet for the best options. However, cats do tend to get addicted to packaged cat food. So you could also probably try natural fresh food.

6) When should i take my kitten to the vet?

It would be advisable to take your kitten to your local vet as soon as possible for a check up and inoculations.

What your clients want from Social Media

If you're new to the industry and you really want to know what exactly you need to do to keep your clients happy, well.....tough luck. One of my first observations is that this is one of the few spaces where clients are really unsure as to what they want or if they're getting their money's worth. It's more like a group of blind men fumbling about in the dark and actually finding what they're looking for. They can feel it but they can't figure out what  the thing is and you can turn the light on and that still won't help things.

Forgive me for using a clichéd term but everyone's 'hopped onto the social bandwagon' expecting that a twitter, facebook or linkedin page is going to do wonders for their brand and magically boost sales or reputations. You can create spiffy new accounts for your clients with the most creative apps and designs but you need to go further than that. The client is always going to ask you, "what next?" and "what now?". Before you even start devising strategies explain your processes carefully and clearly to your clients. And don't promise them the bloody stars.Keep reachable objectives and convince clients likewise. A lot of clients confuse social media with seo and are under the impression that having an online presence on major platforms is enough to cover a tide of negative publicity that shows up in searches. Educate them. Fast.

Try creating a detailed questionnaire and sending that over to your client. It'll help give you a clear picture of what they expect to achieve through social media or what their general objectives of business are and you can tweak your strategies around achieving them. Let your clients know how their objectives will be achieved and advise them to be patient. Let me know if any of this helps.

Aha! Here we go! (enthusiasm infused title)

Mark me as the latest addition to incoherent ramblers online.

Necessity marks the beginning of this blog. I shall also refrain from (currently!) writing anything too morbid or getting all world weary which might take up the better part of my efforts. I guess even writing something too sacrilegious might be out of the question.

Picture me as the little wide-eyed babe testing the waters of the big blue lake with its pre-pubescent little toe. Notice the little line of humour that traverses through these lines. Also, notice the ego, I haven't bothered to engage you yet. I will, surely, later. I'm just getting comfortable.
